Below is the email I sent to the label 'RecordMakers' to request permission for me to use the track 'Nightcall' for my music video. I hope that the label responds positively, as this would allow me to continue with my initial plan without having to modify the track or narrative.
*Note - I will be providing an in-depth research post into 'RecordMakers' further into my blog.
"Dear Sir/Madam
I am a student at George Spencer Academy in Nottingham, England. I am writing to you to request permission for me to use the track ‘Nightcall’ by Kavinsky in my upcoming Media Studies project. The track would be used alongside a music video, which would be non-profitably released on YouTube. I would be sure to include the relevant links to your website in order for viewers to purchase your products. The video will be used for educational purposes, meaning I would not make any financial gain from your content. I hope you accept my request to feature the track, as I am a huge fan of Kavinsky and your other artists.
I look forward to your response,
Kind Regards,
Edward Barker."
As you can see, I made sure to emphasise that I will not be profiting from the label's content, as this would violate several copyright laws. Instead I have offered to include links to the label's website and store in the description of my video(s), as this would allow interested viewers to purchase the track for themselves, allowing RecordMakers to profit from their own content.
